Homeschool Quote of the Month

"But give the child work that Nature intended for him, and the quantity he can get through with ease is practically unlimited. Whoever saw a child tired of seeing, of examining in his own way, unfamiliar things?" -Charlotte Mason

Artist Study & Art Appreciation: Van Gogh

Art Appreciation: Vincent van Gogh
For the next 12 weeks, our composer study and music appreciation will focus on Vincent Van Gogh.

For Picture Study we will spend 2 weeks on each of the following pieces:

For those unfamiliar, Picture Study is simple.Have the child(ren) look at one of the paintings/prints silently for 5 minutes.  Remove the picture from view and have the child(ren) tell you about the picture... what they saw, what they felt, what colors were there.. just whatever comes to their minds. This is done 3x per week.

We will be using the following resources.

Books:
Camille and the Sunflowers
Vincent Van Gogh: The Complete Paintings
Katie and the Sunflowers (Orchard Picturebooks)

Internet Resources:
The Van Gogh Gallery
Van Gogh and Gauguin

Printables and Activities:
A Starry Night Coloring Page
Here is "Vincent" by Don McLean:

How about you? Which artist are you studying in your homeschool?  What resources are you using? Please leave comments.

Happy Homeschooling!

Van Gogh was one of the first artists we studied when we began CM artist study so long ago. I think it may be time to revisit him. I personally love his work. It's so kid friendly.

Hi Jimmie!! Thanks for visiting. I've never cared for van Gogh art.. I never knew why. I suppose it's the rough strokes and lack of detail.

I am, however, looking forward to getting to know him as a person. The more I do, the more of his paintings I actually like.
