A friend of mine posted a link on facebook which I found not only interesting, but a great "indoor" nature study. The Owl Box is a live stream web show of an owl named Molly who has made her home in a box. The live stream is narrated during "show times" but there are also videos of previous activities of the bird. This is a very up-close bird study! The host's page lists bulletins, show times, etc and can be found at http://www.ustream.tv/user/carlosroyal. His information reads:
"This is a live feed of a wild mother barn owl that has just started setting on her eggs. The owl box is located in our backyard in San Marcos, CA and is 15 feet off the ground. She appears to be a first time mom. The owl is about 14 inches tall. She laid her first egg on February 13th. We are expecting owlets around mid to late March. Incubation is 30 to 34 days. owlets will hatch in order laid. Not all at one time like chickens. The male has a white chest and face. He usually shows up after dark but has spent an entire day with the female. We have named the female Molly and the male McGee."
The main site is http://www.ustream.tv/ and there is a category for animals that I went browsing through and found some other interesting shows. There are many bird cams on here. I even saw a cam set up in the African wild bush and a deer trail. It's certainly worth a search. I know my girls will be excited to see things which they normally wouldn't see in our backyard.

Happy Homeschooling!
