Homeschool Quote of the Month

"But give the child work that Nature intended for him, and the quantity he can get through with ease is practically unlimited. Whoever saw a child tired of seeing, of examining in his own way, unfamiliar things?" -Charlotte Mason

Meet My Family

That's me!
Meet My Family
(last updated in 2011)

My name is Michelle. I am a single mom to 5 beautiful human beings. Three of these children are adults who are formerly homeschoolers. I am currently educating two daughters, Alexis (also called Lexi) and Lorelai.

Our experience in homeschooling is a long one marked by key changes along the way. I started homeschooling in October 1999 when my adult children were young. I tried to "school at home" which (surprise!) didn't work at all with my son who suffered from A.D.H.D. By 2002, our style had morphed into "unschooling" which we continued for a number of years. (Read about the homeschool journey.)

We are now a Charlotte Mason homeschool family. I use the term "holistic" in my title, not because we live a holistic lifestyle (which we do), but because this method of education is the most natural form of teaching and learning. It considers the whole child (mind, body, spirit). Rather than work against our nature, it works with it. Our minds and bodies work in a certain way and this method goes with that "flow".

My goal is to help my children grow to be spirtually strong, morally sound, thinking human beings filled with love and compassion for all mankind. I want them to be lovers of learning rather than chasers of grades. This holistic education provides that for them.

My greatest earthly passion has always been writing. I write quite a few blogs. So it's only natural that I'd be writing a homeschool blog as well. I use this blog as a means to "think things out"; get input from other homeschoolers and to create a written record of our journey...a scrapbook of sorts.

So that's me in a nutshell. Now I'd like you to meet my children.

My Children:

Left to Right: Lee Anne (3rd child) and Amy (firstborn)

My second child but only son, Michael aka Tony

Alexis aka Lexi (4th child) and Lee Anne
Lorelai (5th child)
Thanks for stopping by and getting to know us!

Happy Homeschooling!

Michelle
